Description

A fabulous antique Kashkuli rug, origin is Southern-Persian with a ‘Boteh’ design this rug dates from the late 19th century.  Kashkuli are known as the finer type of Qasghai or (Qashqai) rugs, the weave is tight and colours typical of rugs from this region and period. The different dyes for all the Boteh motifs add so much charm to this antique tribal rug, condition is good with a medium fine pile height all over.  These rugs generally do not have a dense pile, some minimal lower areas of pile.  We supply excellent rug underlay with every rug we supply.

. . .

The Qasghai are Persian nomadic tribes that have lived in south-west Persia for centuries. The Qashqai people lived in central Asia and the Caucasus region for many centuries before moving to their current home region. Because of this diverse history, influences from many regions are apparent in their carpets, such as these Boteh designs which we often see in rugs such as Senneh and Caucasian rugs.  More often woven on a wool foundation their handle is loose and with fine soft wool they are beautiful underfoot.
